The Department of works is responsible for the planning, provision, management and maintenance of government Buildings and related infrastructure.
The Department is a service-rendering department, which fulfills the requirements of other line Ministries when it comes to the provision of the above.
The Department further has the function to promulgate and regulate Acts related to the provision of the Architects, Quantity Surveyors and the Engineering Services to the public and to administer legislation regarding these expectations.
In order to provide these services to the Government, the Department is structured into the following Directorates.

The Directorate of Capital Project Management is a service-rendering Directorate responsible for the provision, management and implementation of projects in the Deveopment Budget on behalf of other Ministries.
The objective of Directorate of Capital Project Management is to:
- Regurate, co-ordinate and supervise the construction of Government buildings and infrastructures for user Ministries, Offices and Agencies.
- Complete capital projects in time, within budget and to acceptable standards according to the needs of user Ministries/offices/Agencies with the minimal expenses.
- Regurate Acts for the provision of Architects, Quantity Surveyors and the Engineering Professional Services and to administer legislation for these professionals.

Directorate Maintenance
Objective
The Directorate's main objectives is to renovate and maintain all the government properties. implement the decentralization plan of action and regular consult with stakeholders and strengthen institutional capacity and develop a competence training policy.
Services
The Directorate of Maintenance provide office accommodation for government Ministries and Department, thus renting and purchasing; allocation of official accommodation to civil servants and renovate & maintain all government properties and related infrastructure.
